Dear Richard,

You have done very good work with your thoughts: your destiny touched our lives! Thank you!!!

From your career, you were bringing lessons of life, humour, sensibility, compassion (all of them precious medicines). Only two expamples, from Mac: 'THE VIRGIN' (THE MADONNA) and 'THIN ICE' and there're many more from him and other roles. I was so impressed for a scene when Pete comes into Mac's floating house. It's evident that Dana Elcar isn't acting his sight problem. I remember Mac looking at him, kind and compassionate. It wasn't Mac! It was you! I think I'm not wrong. It seems to me that sensitive scenes are easier in your case: you only need just to be you. Like in 'Cold Lazarus,' too.

When I saw Mac playing hockey I said to myself: This man isn't acting, he's really happy doing this!!! (I didn't know anything about you and hockey in those years). Close up shots develop much!

As I said on the last birthday, you have an educator inside you! Fortunately you decide to share your life with us. 'A person who doesn't share his/her life to others, is wasting life'.

A short time ago, I translated your 2002 thanks message for MACGYVER SPANISH site. Fans were so happy and touched by your words, really! One of them said to me: "Thanks, Marcela to share this with us. It's so nice what I imagined about Richard is real, it's true! Sensitive and a very good person! I'm Happy now!" the Spanish fan said.

Whatever be your projects, if they make you feel happy, I'll be happy too.

I wish you a very Happy Birthday, close to the best life gift: Wylie.

Sorry, but my Benji (who sent greetings to Zoe last year) can't be here. He's beside Whiskey now. I'm sure you'll understand what I'm feeling...

JANUARY 23rd:
'STARDATE SD-53' and many more!!!

For this new year and many more, Cheers! and for the way you are, you deserve .

Are you thinking of having a site telling about places you're visiting and their ecological problems? That's one of my favorite subjects as Professor of Geography.

As we have favorite things in common I decided to show them with photos. I love photography!

Richard, don't you need a new lion for your documentary presentations? A familiar video home, maybe? Of course, this lion was made for MTM. We can do a GEKKO one.

Till next! HAVE A WONDERFUL DAY!!!

Love,

Marcela Ramos

Dear Richard,

First of all I wish you all the best and lots of love for your 53rd Birthday!!!!!!!! You are one of the greatest actors in the world for me, though I know you don't like compliments very much.

I got to know you when I was about five years old and MacGyver immediately became my and my brother's favourite series. (Perhaps one reason for this is that I was born in the month when MacGyver started, in September 1985). However, I liked the intelligent way in which these episodes were made and it really roused my curiosity for Physics and Chemistry. Now I'm 17 years old, a student in Zurich, Switzerland, and I still like you, your behaviour and the way you smile. There are no words to explain my admiration for you. By the way I've learnt plenty of things in Physics and Chemistry from you as MacGyver that helped me to get A-grades in both subjects.

Today watching Stargate became an essential part in my life beside my hobbies like skiing (of course in the Swiss Alps), ice-skating, reading, and playing the transverse flute.

I wish you again all the best for a long life that lasts 53 years again at least!! Thank you very much for the great work you've done in acting until now!! I will never forget you, therefore I've also decided to become an actress.

In German: Ich wünsche dir von Herzen alles Gute zu deinem Geburtstag. Mögen alle deine Wünsche in Erfüllung gehen.

Lots of love,

Yolanda

Hi! Happy Birthday to you!

I have enjoyed being a fan for the past 20 years and I hope to enjoy many more. Your family is adorable and remember Wylie is only young once. Family morals & values are the most important at this time in her life! Something my mother taught me was, "Your children are on your toes when they are young and on your heart when they are older." Please enjoy her as much as possible!

This is my first time expressing my thoughts as a fan! I hope you have another wonderful year! Thank you for your strength and capabilities to make people around the world enjoy the time they have watching you on television.

It is my pleasure to say Happy Birthday To You!

Dear Richard,

It's been 16 years since you entered my world. It seems it was yesterday when I first saw that 'unarmed superhero' who brought so many adventures to my life. Then, there was a zany man who became a 'legend' and now, I'm discovering 'new worlds' thanks to a Colonel. I'm glad to find your sense of humor in all those characters, because I can see you. I really hope you spend a terrific day with the people you love. I want to give you this poem as a birthday present, it's Robert Frost's and it is my favourite. I hope you enjoy it! FELIZ CUMPLEAŃOS!!!!

The Road Not Taken

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I--
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

Hello! Very Happy Birthday, Richard!

Heartfelt wishes for a wonderful birthday and Kudos for the wonderful past year you've given us. As usual, the quality and dignity with which you present yourself and your work will always assure your most ardent admirers that this world isn't such a bad place after all. Your thoughtfulness and whimsy have inspired a great many, including myself, to continue to do the best I can as well. The "new eyes" you continue to view life with (Wylie's of course) will keep you young in spirit and heart and I hope, willing to put up with the likes of us for many more years!

Again, a VERY happy birthday and may you see many, many more.

Hi Richard,

Thanks so much for another wonderful year on Stargate SG-1 and for the wonderful gift you give us in your acting. I hope that you have a lovely birthday and an incredible 2003. I'm sure you'll have lots of good memories and good times, and I'm sure Wylie will make sure of it.

May you and your loved ones have a happy and healthy year and all my best wishes go to you and your family.

Have a great birthday Rick, you truly deserve it.

Happy Birthday, Richard,

I couldn't pass up this opportunity to wish you all the best on your birthday and to thank you for everything you have given us, the fans, over so many years. And just when we all thought it was coming to an end, we find you have agreed to share another season of Stargate with us - and for that a huge thank you. I know how much it intrudes into your personal life and how much you yearn to be in other places, and yet your enthusiasm never wanes.

On a personal level I would like to thank you for showing one, not as energetic as they used to be or ought to be, 42 year old that life can still be active, exciting and adventurous even after those "30 something" years! The journey I undertook with "The Girls" back in July last year is something I will never ever forget - some places really are special - thank you, Rick.

Enjoy your birthday.

Love,

Linda [one of "The Girls" from the UK]

Dear Rick,

Well, another year, another birthday. I just thought I would take a few minutes to say thanks for being a joy to watch every week on SG-1, and also thanks for being an all-round good guy and - dare I say it? - one of the Finest Men Who Ever Lived. (I'm sure that's the first time you ever heard that... )

Best wishes to you and yours, and have a birthday beer for me!

Happy Birthday!

I want to thank you very much for giving us more enjoyment in your acting. I wish you lots of happiness and a wonderful year 2003 with your lovely daughter.

And also I want to thank you for giving me a new life! I decided to quit my job and visited Vancouver to study English last April. Then... I've gotten a new job in Vancouver!! I can't believe it, but my dream comes true! You gave me my new life, new oppotunity, and new challenge. Thank you very much, Rick. You have a power which can change people's lives.

I wish you a very good happy birthday and I hope you and your family a long life full of happiness and cheerfulness.

Dear Richard,

Thank you for all you do to make this world better! You're a very special person and I am glad you allow us to share a part of your life.

I also want to thank you for being a little bit older than me! I'll be a proud 50 this year and am sooo glad that someone else is just a bit older for a change... hahaha.

Take care and have a wonderful time with your sweet girl. I have a wonderful 8 year old son and am so happy I have him. I think you enjoy them more when you're older.

Rick,

Thank you for your heart, your work, your diligence, and for expressing your passion in what you believe. It has been my very great pleasure to be able to watch you since you first began your career. I hope there will be much more to come. Please thank Wylie for sharing you with us for just a little while longer. We appreciate you AND her more than you can imagine.

Happy birthday!!!!

Hi, Richard:

Really love your work. I did not get to see MacGyver (I'm watching the re-runs now), but I was disappointed when Legend did not stay on the air - your comic talents were surprising, and refreshing (love the way you would bounce back to your feet after you fell, or were pushed, or whatever!), and in Stargate, the way you can show what you are feeling without needing any dialog is amazing to me. Also, the lack of "image" consciousness, and the twists and turns in the story line make it my favorite show, and Jack O'Neill, my favorite TV character.

I hope you are not seriously thinking about retiring. For one thing, you are too young, and too talented, and for another, I really enjoy watching people who enjoy what they do and let their audience enjoy their work, also, and you are one of the best. Stargate is a great show, much more real and believable than other shows in the genre I've seen, and I am a big Sci Fi fan.

Please have a great birthday! And give your little girl a hug from all your fans!

Thanks so much,

Cate
Chicago

Hi Rick,

First of all, Happy Birthday... Second, I heard like many other fans that Stargate SG-1 is going into year seven. Wow and thank you... Thirdly, I have a confession to make...

Prior to January 6th, I have never seen a single episode of MacGyver (it just showed up on the TV LAND channel this week)... and until Sci-fi picked it up I had never seen Stargate SG-1.

How did this happen? Well, when you grow up in a small ranch house that was built for two retirees and instead stuff it with two adults, one older brother, me, four German Shepherds and one television, you kinda learn when to pick your battles, and the TV viewing wasn't one of them.

I mean sure I could've complained, but I was outnumbered, so I did the next best thing. I complained to the dogs instead, and they were very sympathetic when they weren't busy pulling the squeakers out of their toys or ripping up one of my perfectly good socks...

So then along came Stargate SG-1... and I didn't get to see that either 'cause it was on Showtime (someone want to explain the reasoning behind that one to me? Anyone?) and we only had basic cable. Needless to say when I got my own place that changed.

Finally last year a friend let me borrow the first season DVD set, and from the first episode on I was hooked... hooked on the stories... hooked on the characters... and hooked on watching this guy named Richard Dean Anderson who had the ability to convey more humor, frustration, confusion, and determination with a look or a gesture than most actors could armed with entire pages of dialogue... Honestly, I think the best moments between you, Amanda, Christopher, Michael, (and yes Corin) are the ones where no one will say a word and yet convey volumes... ok, that and the snappy one liners...

Since then I've watched more episodes via DVD, Sci-Fi Channel, and the Internet, and the more I watched the more I started noticing little things, like the time O'Neill got stranded on a planet and he's standing at the river's edge throwing rocks, and instead of picking up rocks off the ground he reaches into his pants pocket instead and voila... more rocks! I starting cracking up at the mental image of this guy walking around stuffing his cargo pants with rocks just so he could toss them into a river. Little things like that add a lot to a character.

Well I've gone on far too long, but since I've never written an actor before I hope you'll forgive me. Meanwhile, I have a lot of MacGyver catching up to do, but just wanted to say thanks again for all your hard work, and Happy Birthday!

Lisa Van Houten
Piscataway, NJ
