Dear Rick,
I realise this message should be intended as a birthday celebration and I promise I will get round to that, but I'd also like to use it as an excuse to say something else as well. My husband, Nick, was diagnosed with cancer at the beginning of 2004 and because he was off work most of the time he knocked up more hours than usual in front of the tv. Anyway, quite by chance, he ended up watching the Stargate Lowdown programme one evening and then became a fan of the series. Although I'm more of a 'rom com' type of woman I must admit I became hooked myself. Nick lost his battle a few months ago (he was only 32) but I've continued to follow the show. I'm trying to fulfill a promise to get on and enjoy life but when there are those days where certain issues weigh me down it's great that I can switch off from reality for a little while and watch something that lifts my spirits. I just wanted the opportunity to say thank you to you and all the Stargate SG-1 cast - entertainment at its best! Now back to what I should be saying in this message - I sincerely wish you a Very Happy Birthday.

Since I moved away from everyone and everything I know, Stargate has been one thing that has helped me to tie a knot at the end of my rope and hang on. And of course, Jack is my favorite character! I also can clearly remember watching MacGyver with my family, even though I was only four when it started! So, in short, your career thus far has been important to many people in many different ways, and I am one of those people. Now that I am making friends here in Maryland, me and some of my new friends plan to have a girls' night full of watching Stargate SG-1 and eating pizza. I'm sure we'll do the same for MacGyver when it comes out on DVD. I hope that on your birthday you have as much joy as you have brought to me, indirectly, over the years. You are the first celebrity I have ever written to, so please bear with me should I begin to ramble. First off, I would like to wish you a very Happy 55th Birthday. I hope and pray that it will be a great day for you. I have been a fan of yours for 19 years, since MacGyver first came on television. I was 15 years old at the time and my father used to tease me about watching it. He thought that it was unrealistic at times because Mac could always find a way to save the day, usually with a toothpick and a stick of gum.
Stargate SG-1 is probably the best show on television these days. Of course, I'm biased. My husband and I didn't have Showtime, so we became fans by watching reruns on Sci-Fi. As soon as we realized that the show was on DVD, we bought all six seasons at once and season 7 followed shortly thereafter.
I wanted you to know how much we love the show and how much we love Jack O'Neill (with two L's). Should you not return in the ninth season, I will miss Jack terribly. You bring a singular wit to the character that I can't imagine any other actor pulling it off. And the chemistry you share with AT, MS, and CJ is amazing. I will miss that. However, I completely understand your reasons for leaving and I applaud you for it. I wish nothing but the best for you and I hope that Wylie brings nothing but joy into your life. So, if you do retire, please let us know how you are doing from time to time. We are your fans and we love and will miss you, and, of course, let's not forget Jack.

The long hours, physical and mental strain, your multi-faceted talent, dry humor (O'Neill point of view), wisdom and creativity that you've brought to your characters through the years ? we, the viewers, have been the greatest benefactors of your giving nature. With syndication and DVD's, MacGyver and O'Neill will live on for a very long time. (Sure hope you get a percentage!)
It still amazes me ? I never tire of watching MacGyver and Stargate. I've been a Sci-fi fan since the original Star Trek series and have enjoyed the many "generations" they have created. While I will truly miss your presence as O'Neill (if actually retiring this year), I hope the Stargate franchise continues on for many of its own "generations." Who knows, Jack, Jr. could one day head the SG-1 team and Dad visits occasionally.
I respect your wishes to enjoy family life & daughter Wylie. My own daughter will be 17 this year - I don't know where the time went. Enjoy Wylie - this is a wonderful age, give & get those hugs & kisses often before she decides she's too old for that from Mom & Dad. I think becoming a parent at an older age is more gratifying. I was looking at a site and saw some pictures of when you were skiing in Banff. I had the opportunity to see you, though be it, from afar. It was the highlight of my time, my life. I was in the area for a business conference where I work (the largest salty, snack food business in the world) and we took time off to have a little fun. That was a little more than fun for me. I have a picture of you but, , I was too far away. People just have to take my word for it when I tell them it is you.
Anyway, from one speed limit to another (just ten below you), have a happy birthday and love watching you every week. I am definitely an RDA addict. Have to have my rda of RDA. Unfortunately, I don't get it due to my career but it has its perks. Like Banff.
Hope you have a good one and wish you all the best. I know this is selfish of me but I wish to see you many, many more times on Stargate. I know that you have a life outside of acting and a daughter to think about but I just would miss seeing you on my big screen. Being as my kids are grown, son, almost 18 and daughter, just turned 22 and getting married in June, my only vice is watching too much Stargate. My daughter called me a Stargate addict once. I corrected her, to myself, and called it RDA addiction. Have and always will be and loving every minute of it!!

I hope that you have a happy and joyous birthday and spend it with your daughter. I have enjoyed watching you since your MacGyver days, and still enjoy seing you today on Stargate. If you plan on taking time to spend with your daughter or any of your other projects go ahead, but show up once in a while so that we know you are still around.
I know that you like to ski, I know of a few places where I live such as Montage Mtn., Tanglewood, Masthope and Elk Mtn all in PA. In NY Hunter Mtn and within 2 minutes of my house is a resort called the Villa Roma and they also own Holiday Mtn. I have been to most of these places and they are good for you and your daughter, but I have know idea if anyone will recgonize you if you went to one of these places.
You should also thank Kate for the site she has for you. You have a lot of fans who appreciate all the work that you do to keep us entertained. She does a lot of work to keep us all updated on all projects and appearances you have including the award you got in this past year in Washington D.C.
I have family that lives in and around that area, and before my Grandfather died in October he lived about 12 miles from the D.C. area. Well as I said before, I hope you have a happy birthday and enjoy the day with your daughter, family and friends.

Many Canadians and Americans are playing in Swedish teams now. Luleå hockey team is fighting for its existence in the Swedish Hockey League, they are good but hockey is tuff. Do you think that Joe Sakic would play for Luleå Hockey? How much longer do you think the "Lockout" will continue?

Actually those flowers should have been real, for I initially intended to send you a bunch of fresh flowers for your Birthday. As I am not sure you'll get or be notified about it and knowing about your charity efforts I gave double of the appropriate cost additionally to someone in need who I support. For you Mr. Anderson, I think it is also O.K. to help (hope I'm right), not only in announced charity purposes.
Due to your behavior, character and personality, Mr. Anderson, you once helped saving my life. As my way to say thanks is not only in words, I sent unique presents and advent calendars for you and Wylie to your fan mail service in L.A. and asked for forwarding to or at least notifying you.
It is not important that you get those things; even so the self-made ones are specially designed for you. You should just feel good and get back some of the fun and happiness you give. You should also know that YOU (not only MacGyver, Jack O'Neill, and all the other fantastic roles) play a significant role.
You have a great sense of humor, most of the time ready for a joke and a friendly encouraging smile. From my point of view it is a very good life philosophy to spread joy and fun everywhere, even if it sometimes is only a façade.

Please don't go home! Give yourself a rest.
It must be hard to work on the same project for so many years, but many people love that character. Just show up once in a while to keep fans from going into withdrawal. I'm sure the new characters will be fine -- but it still won't be you.

I'm a kid of the 80's and the best thing about MacGyver was your hair!!! I loved it. Hey, I was three inches taller because of my 80's hair. Long live the mullet!! Talking about mullets, I took a picture of my 1 year old son and 10 year old daughter a couple of months ago and someone had put a wig on his head. He has very fine hair so it was quite funny to see him in hair. I called him my baby with a mullet - a dedication to Mac. I also like the fact that a Swiss army knife and duct tape got you out of a lot of trouble. I just want to tell you that you are a great actor. We all have our faults and I think we are all too humble to say that what we do is great, but as a fan of yours since the pilot episode of MacGyver, you are the best. Dear Rick, I want to join my "voice" to those numerous ones all around the world to wish you a happy birthday with your beloved ones. I hope that this new year will see the fulfilment of your dearest dreams whether in your private or professional life.
Your birthday celebration is the only opportunity I have to express to the wonderful person you are my admiration, respect and love. The fact that you're gifted and such an example for so many people around the world is embedded in that you make attractive and interesting everything you do or touch.
As for me, I didn't like you in your role in the series 'Emerald Point', but I got hooked for the very first time I saw MacGyver (I learn a lot watching him). I appreciate much your play in Stargate SG-1 and find the O'Neill character changing and unpredictable, adding to the show a kind of suspense. This, combined with the friendly disputes and permanent arguing with Daniel makes the series unmatched in the field of science-fiction. However, I have noticed a monotony and dullness in the subjects dealt with in, compared to the richness and variety of the themes of the first four seasons: It is as if the universe has cleared from all the alien creatures and left with only a belliquous one, the Goa'uld! This sudden vanishing of all the other aliens has resulted in restricting the 'whole story' of the Stargate to a unique theme, up to the point that the series should be called then: "War against the Goa'uld" and not the so much evocating 'Stargate'! I've noticed that this 'military' turn has started with the appearance of General Ryan in the show (Prodigy). From then on, the majority of the stories of the series are of a military concern!...where have gone all the marvellous discoveries and encounters that made this work so pleasant and edifying?...
I continue to see the series because of you! Please continue to be in the show. I hope that someday I have the great honor to meet you and have a talk with you.

I will miss you very much if/when you leave Stargate SG-1. But at least I will know that you are on a more important mission, one that the Stargate can never take you to. The mission of a lifetime, with your daughter, Wylie.

I'm 13 and love MacGyver and Stargate. It's all thanks to my mom, who I would say is your biggest fan. I think it's cool how you and my mom have the same birthday. Now when I sing "Happy Birthday" I say both her name AND yours! I've seen 1 thing that you were in that my mom HASN'T seen! It was that Red Cross video and you were talking about first aid. My friend (who is also a big fan) and I looked at each other and our eyes got wide! 
I told my mom and she was jealous! I'll miss you if/when you leave Stargate. You make it interesting!!
