This thriller weaves suspense around a terrorized designer (Marg Helgenberger), who fears both the volatile boss (Joe Pantoliano) who two-timed her and the charismatic "master builder" (Richard Dean Anderson) who's working on her apartment. A series of good love affairs gone bad is in her past, a bright future lies ahead. Weary of being side-swiped by romance, Laurie is stepping out on her own -- and one of her first steps is to get a place of her own. It'll take a little fixing up, however. That's where Ray comes in. He's an ace handyman who can do for a dime what other contractors do for a dollar. He's remarkably capable, incredibly handsome, almost too good to be true. And it may be too late before Laurie finds there's nothing true about him at all.

The movie is based on the short story The Master Builder (its original shooting title), by Christopher Fowler.
