EREBUS

Erebus

In Greek mythology, Erebus is a place where condemned souls pass as soon as they die. The planet Erebus is a forbidding prison world with two moons and a naquadah refinery near an anti-gravity dry-dock where Goa'uld ha'tak vessels are constructed. Jaffa prisoners of war, unwilling to serve their new Goa'uld masters, are taken to such labor camps to be worked to death since only they can withstand the intense heat and toxic gases of the blast furnaces fed by underground volcanic systems. The stargate on Erebus is protected by an impenetrable force field much like an iris. Erebus was recently taken by Ba'al, and Bra'tac and Rya'c, who had gone there to recruit Rebel Jaffa, became prisoners themselves when Ba'al's forces arrived, an event which Daniel had witnessed as an ascended being, but had been powerless to prevent. SG-1 synthesized the deactivation signal to power down the force field and succeeded in launching a rescue mission to release Bra'tac and Rya'c. The death camp on Erebus was liberated, and all the prisoners were relocated to the Alpha Site, anxious to join the Rebel Jaffa.
