On October 1st, the University of Southern California School of Medicine hosted the 11th annual Quench the Fire 5K/10K Run & Walk at Woodley Avenue Park in Van Nuys, California. The proceeds from the event benefited the USC Pain Center at the Keck School of Medicine at USC in its goal to support education, research, and treatment of Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy (RSD) and other neuropathic chronic pain diseases. As he has done each year since the run began, Richard signaled the start of the race, and this year he even began the walk route, then took a left turn and ended up exploring the park on his own, communing with nature and a red tailed hawk that had landed near him. Afterward, he mingled with the fans who attended, posed for pictures, and stayed even after the event was packing up in order to sign autographs for everyone who wanted one.
