Richard returned to visit Jay Leno on the Tonight Show during the seventh season of "MacGyver," and he talked about the show's return to the action-adventure genre and the episode he was currently filming with Merlin and molten lava. He wore an Olympic hockey jersey and spoke proudly about becoming the honorary captain of the Olympic Hockey Team USA for the second time. He had moved back to Los Angeles for MacGyver's final season, and thanked Jay for repairing his motorcycle for him, but he confided that he still rents since he had lost out on purchasing the home that he had wanted. He also spoke about his time on "General Hospital" and the storyline that sent his on-screen wife to the "wacko bin," and he shared the story of the life-changing 5641-mile bicycle trip to Alaska that he had taken when he was 17.
