In New York, Richard spoke with Conan O'Brien on his late night talk show to promote the debut of Stargate SG-1 in syndication. He also talked about the legacy of MacGyver and his own less successful attempts to use MacGyverisms, for example to repair his motorcycle. In a reference to fellow actor David Hasselhoff's singing career, he quipped that he has not pursued a similar career in music because "I can't sing either." He enthusiastically talked about his role of fatherhood, and he shared a picture of 3-month-old Wylie. He also acknowledged his own reputation as a ladies' man, mentioning his loss of virginity at age 14, and considered how he will react when Wylie reaches dating age.
