RICHARD DEAN ANDERSON -- FAST TRACK

Richard Dean Anderson
  • Birthday: January 23, 1950

  • Birthplace: Minneapolis

  • Occupation: Actor

  • Current homes: California and Minnesota

  • Marital status: Single

  • Car: A black Acura NSX and a black Jeep CJ7

  • Working on: Pandora's Clock, airing on NBC-TV on November 10 and 11

  • The last good movie I saw: Trainspotting

  • Favorite performer: Leo Kottke plays an amazing guitar.

  • People always think I'm: Sting or MacGyver.

  • I stay home to watch: I just got a satellite dish, so I'm still surfing and examining the possibilities of hundreds of channels to choose from. I watch a lot of Discovery, History, A&E, CNN and Formula One racing, and during the season, World Cup skiing and hockey.

  • The book I've been reading: I've been inundated with scripts.

  • Prized possession: My log cabin in northern Minnesota. It's mine and it's home.

  • Personal heroes: Bobby Orr, Gordy Howe, Jean-Claude Killey.

  • My fantasy is: Flying. I took an introductory course in soaring, or sky sailing, which is basically gliding in an airplane without motors. The idea of free-form flight intrigues me.

  • I'd give anything to meet: I'd love to hang out with a bunch of French Impressionist painters.

  • People who knew me in high school thought I was: On the periphery of several groups: the jocks, the long-hairs, the debate team. All I know is I wasn't invited to my first high school reunion. They claimed they couldn't find me. It's possible; I tended to disappear for long periods of time.

  • The best time in my life: The '60s and '70s. It was a time of big cultural change. I survived and had a lot of fun doing it.

  • The worst time of my life: The same time.

  • If I wasn't an actor, I'd be: Racing cars or exploring. I'm drawn to mountains and cold.

  • If I've learned one thing in life: It's that if I've learned only one thing, I'm an idiot.

  • Most humbling experience: Birth.

  • Three words that best describe me: Naked, dazed and confused.
