On December 6, the University of Southern California School of Medicine hosted the 3rd Annual Quench the Fire 5K Run & Walk at Whittier Narrows Park in South El Monte near Los Angeles. The proceeds from the event benefited the USC Pain Center at the Keck School of Medicine at USC in its goal to support education, research, and treatment of Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy (RSD) and other neuropathic chronic pain diseases. Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy Syndrome, also called Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS), is a chronic neurological disease affecting an estimated 1.5 to more than 6 million Americans. Richard's doctor has been associated with the USC Pain Center, and in support of the work they are doing there, Richard has appeared at each of the three Annual Run/Walk events. As a guest emcee, he helped to signal the start of the race and to announce the special winners as the race concluded. Richard also mingled with the fans who attended, and he posed for pictures and signed autographs.
