While in New York, Richard appeared on Live with Regis and Kathie Lee. Substituting for Regis Philbin that day was Claudia Cohen, entertainment reporter and gossip columnist who co-hosted with Kathie Lee. Richard shared his story of missing out on his high school prom, and he talked about his time on General Hospital and his decision to leave the show. Sharing his obsession with the game of hockey, he related the story of breaking both of his arms in high school games and leaving the lost dream of a professional career to turn to acting instead. He also mentioned that the night before he and a friend had attended a Rangers game in Philadelphia, and later that afternoon he hoped to have an opportunity to skate with Bryan Trottier on Long Island.
