PEOPLE ARE TALKING
May, 1988

Shortly after undergoing surgery to correct a back injury, Richard appeared on the locally broadcast San Francisco morning talk show, "People Are Talking." His interview was conducted in a bed, and he wore pajamas and a stocking cap for the occasion. With the interviewers, he talked about living with celebrity, about the emphasis on appearance in the industry, about his love of sports, and his relationship with Marlee Matlin. He also briefly dropped his jammies to reveal his surgery scar, and he demonstrated his juggling skills with a $350 piece of Steuben glass. Later, as other guests gathered on the bed, Richard devoted his attention to playing with Bobby, the dog.

Unfortunately, copies of this interview are very rare and usually of very poor quality. If a better quality copy of the interview exists, it would be most welcome.
