Richard visited with Joan Rivers during his hiatus following the sixth season of MacGyver. He talked about his single lifestyle and the tabloid rumors about whom he is dating. Joan also referenced his New Year's Eve ritual involving a naked toast to the moon at midnight, and she teased him about comments he had made earlier about Kim Basinger. Richard mentioned that a MacGyver spin-off based on the Coltons had been planned and filmed, and he brought samples of the scathing fan mail that the studio had received whenever a love interest had been introduced for MacGyver. The interview was taped in New York on February 4th and aired the following month.
