Richard brought a copy of TV Guide naming Jay Leno and band leader Branford Marsalis as among the best dressed in television, and Jay pointed out Richard's choice of brown shoes with a black suit and his long dark hair for his role as a bad guy in Through the Eyes of a Killer. Richard talked about his invitation to speak and to receive an Award of Merit at his alma mater, Ohio University, and he described his travels to New York and California that had led him to leave college just short of graduation. He again avoided Jay's questions about his personal life, but he indicated that he has been dating someone, a reference to Teri Hatcher whom he did not name, in an interrogation that ended in a spit-take.
