EX DEUS MACHINA

Ex Deus Machina

09.07 Episode 181
Airdate: August 26, 2005

A lone Jaffa turns up on a remote Virginia road, the victim of a hit-and-run, and an investigation reveals that Alex Jameson, CFO of the nearby aeronautics firm, Farrow-Marshall, has been reported missing. The SGC suspects a link to the Trust and to Gerak, the leader of the Jaffa Council, but inquiries at Farrow-Marshall and on Dakara turn up nothing. Gerak is hiding a dark secret, however. Jameson, now a Goa'uld host and Gerak's prisoner on Dakara, is being tortured for information, and Ka'lel offers Mitchell and Teal'c a cryptic warning. It is Ba'al whom Gerak seeks, and the answers are on Earth.

Ba'al has sought refuge on Earth, posing as a businessman within Farrow-Marshall Aeronautics, and SG-1 must find him before Gerak does. Carter and Daniel coordinate with Barrett and the NID in a search for Ba'al while Mitchell and Teal'c, aboard the Prometheus, search for Gerak's Jaffa. Ba'al eludes capture, however, escaping from a midnight raid by Jaffa on his office headquarters, then warning the SGC that any further attempts to capture him will result in the detonation of a naquadah bomb. As the SGC prepares to seize Ba'al's secret compound, he announces that a bomb in Seattle's Halcyon Tower will be detonated in 45 minutes.

With time running out, Gerak's forces attack Ba'al's compound as SG-1 prepares to launch symbiote poison into the facility and begins a desperate search of the Halcyon Tower. Readings indicate, however, that the entire tower is a bomb, and with seconds to spare, Prometheus beams the building into space before detonation. Meanwhile, on Dakara, Gerak triumphantly delivers his prize, the prisoner Ba'al, whom he kills before the Council, gaining the allegiance of his people. However, documents discovered at Ba'al's compound suggest research in genetic replication. The prisoner may have been a clone, and the real Ba'al may still be at large.
