BADUR

Badur

Badur was one of the men from Hassan's village. To improve their lives, the residents of a small, impoverished village in India had built a clinic, and they had bought medicines from two Western businessmen in Chattur. Hassan's son, a doctor, had administered the drugs by injection, first to himself, and then to the villagers, however the medicine had been tainted, and 26 people in the village had died, including Hassan's son and Badur's brother.

Although Hassan did not know the identity of the two men, he knew that they had boarded the train for Rajmir. Other passengers included Andrea Collins, a courier for the US State Department, Andy Ellis and Laura Dillion, Americans who had recently met and had begun a relationship, Diana Kingman, a meek American young woman travelling with her domineering mother Eleanor, James Grant, a British surgeon who had recently lost his right arm in an accident, Peter Kramer, a mysterious European traveling alone, Paul Webster, an American, Lyman and Blade, who wore the uniform of a conductor, and MacGyver. As some of the men planted explosives to destroy a trestle bridge, Badur and his partner were already on board, and at the appointed signal, they announced that they were taking control of the train.

Lyman, the conductor, stepped forward, and as he and Badur struggled, Badur's gun fired, and Lyman was seriously wounded. Badur insisted that he was not a bandit and that the shooting had been accidental, and he permitted two of the passengers, Dr. James Grant and Diana Kingman, to care for Lyman. In order to overpower the hijackers, MacGyver used a jar of olives as a distraction, and a spray of seltzer and salt to temporarily disable Badur and his partner. As they pursued him to the roof of the train, MacGyver used alcohol and a match to start a small fire that forced the hijackers to leap from the moving train. They were able to rejoin the train, however, when Hassan's men blew up the bridge and forced the train to stop. Hassan announced that all Westerners on board would be held hostage without food or water until they themselves identified the two Western businessmen and turned them over to face justice.

Having secured Hassan's promise that the men would be given a fair trial, MacGyver fashioned a makeshift lie detector using a sphygmomanometer and an alarm clock. When Paul Webster set off the alarm, he revealed that he and Blade had been responsible for the tainted drugs. Webster was killed in his attempt to escape, but Blade was taken into custody, the passengers were permitted to continue their journey, and Badur returned to his village with Hassan and the others.
