ED TRAIN

Ed Train was the police chief of Westport Beach, California. Working strictly for financial gain, he had orchestrated the theft, little by little over time, of 30 kilos of weapons-grade uranium from the Westport Nuclear Processing Plant. To accomplish his plan, he had enlisted the cooperation of Tim Wexler, who worked at the plant and knew how to handle high-grade uranium. He intended to meet his customers in Canada and to sell the uranium for $50 million, and although it was enough to build a nuclear bomb, he had no ethical concerns about what would become of it after his delivery.

He was also not above murder. When Amy Austin, Director of Research at the plant, discovered that the uranium was missing, she alerted her boss, Gerald Hillman, who left to report the incident to Washington. Train was behind Hillman's murder when his car suspiciously ran off the road and hit a bridge two miles outside of town, and he targeted Amy next, using an explosive bullet fired at the gas tank of her car. However, it was Amy's roommate Bonnie who had been driving the car and who died in the explosion.

Realizing that she was a target, Amy had called her friend MacGyver for help, and he arrived in time to witness the explosion of Amy's car and to point out to Chief Train the suspicious nature of the hole in the gas tank. Train had access to the Westport Plant, and, wearing a hazmat suit to conceal his identity, he attempted next to lock MacGyver and Amy inside the nuclear waste disposal chamber, but MacGyver was able to escape by short-circuiting the electronic time clock and releasing the lock.

Determined to leave with the uranium that had been hidden in a concrete sign post within the plant, and to eliminate any witnesses, Train held MacGyver, Amy, and Kyle at gunpoint in the control room of the facility. Tim pleaded with his partner that there should be no more killing, but as he tried to wrestle the gun away from Train, Tim was wounded in the abdomen, and Train continued firing as he made his escape, hitting Kyle in the shoulder, and striking the console which shorted out the control panel and put the plant in danger of a meltdown.

As MacGyver and Amy attempted to prevent a meltdown, they encountered Train trying to flee the facility with the stolen uranium. In another struggle, Train's gun accidentally fired at one of the pipes, releasing radioactive steam, and he was hit with a major dose of radiation. MacGyver and Amy rushed him off to wash-down, hoping to reduce the effects of the contamination, before they proceeded to prevent a meltdown by climbing to the top of the facility and manually clearing the blockage in the high pressure injection system. Train would have been taken into custody following the incident and would have faced prison time, assuming that he survived the effects of radiation poisoning.
