SAMMY

Sammy was a friendly acquaintance of MacGyver. A Chinese American, he could often be found in Chinatown selling cheap souvenirs out of the trunk of his car. Donning traditional Chinese robes and a strong Chinese accent, he encouraged tourists to buy his "real genuine copies of a certified replica in the Golden Era Museum" and his "authentic fakes all the way from Taiwan."

MacGyver had been searching through Chinatown for his friend, Paul Chan, a 14-year-old boy from Santa Monica who had been convinced by Stone, a criminal, thief, and swindler, to portray the Wish Child of Chinese legend who was believed to grant immortality. In Chinatown, MacGyver turned to Sammy for help and information. Sammy, who instantly dropped his Chinese accent, was familiar with the legend of the Wish Child, and he warned MacGyver about Stone, who would have no use for Paul once he had made his money. He also directed MacGyver to the Golden Era Museum, where he would learn more about the legend and those who hoped to profit from it.
