GOLDEN ERA MUSEUM

The Golden Era Museum in Chinatown was located at 7 Mei Ling Way in Los Angeles. The museum had been doing some in depth research on the Chinese legend of the Wish Child, and its exhibits included a number of images and artifacts related to the legend.

Lee Wenying, a Chinese businessman who believed that the Wish Child would grant him immortality, was willing to pay to possess the child, and Paul Chan, a 14-year-old boy from Santa Monica, had been conned into portraying the Wish Child as part of a scam for a million dollars.

MacGyver was a friend of Paul, and he recognized the danger that the boy faced. MacGyver's search for his friend led him first to Sammy, an acquaintance in Chinatown who directed him to the Golden Era Museum. There he met Dr. Shen Wei, an expert in the Wish Child legend, who had met with Paul earlier and had been convinced that the scam was real.

At first Shen refused to believe that his actions had put Paul in danger, but MacGyver convinced him to reveal the location of Lee Wenying's ship where Paul had been taken. However, Lee had no intention of leaving loose ends, and his associate, Teng, tracked Dr. Shen to the Golden Era Museum and shot and killed him, just as Shen uttered with his dying breath the location of Lee's ship.
