CHEYENNE MOUNTAIN COMPLEX

Cheyenne Mountain Complex

Cheyenne Mountain Complex in Colorado Springs, Colorado was formerly a high security missile silo dating back to the 1960s. The facility now houses NORAD on the main levels, and Stargate Command occupies 13 of the 28 sublevels below. The stargate itself is housed on sublevel 28. The ceiling retracts, and above the gate is a shaft, remaining from the days as a missile silo, which leads to the surface. A crane mechanism within the shaft is able to hoist the gate up or down. Within the facility, security clearance increases with successive sublevels, and the doorways and the lighting in the tunnel hallways use a system of color coding that helps to identify various levels.
