MIROSLAV KISELEV

General Miroslav Kiselev, the Russian Defense Minister, exercised operational authority over all of Russia's armed forces, including their nuclear arsenal. He graduated with a Gold Medal from Malinovskiy Tank Academy, received the Hero of Russia for his distinguished leadership in Chechnya, commanded the Carpathian Military District Iron Division, then the 14th Army in the Transcaucasus Military District, and was head of the General Staff Academy for five years before being appointed to his most recent position. He was suspicious of American global influence and highly critical of what he called NATO expansion plans, and had always been a hard-liner in dealings with the West, despite a mutual respect he had developed for Senator Kinsey.

Kiselev became a pawn in a Goa'uld scheme to acquire the Ancient defense weapon in Antarctica by triggering a nuclear war between the United States and Russia. Members of the Trust had had connections within the Russian military through Kiselev's chief of staff, Colonel Chernovshev, and when the Trust was compromised by the Goa'uld, they used their connection to implant General Kiselev as a Goa'uld host. SG-1 suspected that he had been compromised when recent photos of the General, who suffered from glaucoma and extremely poor vision, revealed that he was no longer wearing his glasses. As a Goa'uld, Kiselev seized control of the Russian arsenal and attempted to launch a missile strike against the US without authorization. Although the world was brought to the brink of nuclear war, through the cooperation of O'Neill, Colonel Chekov, and Russian President Mikhailov, Kiselev was apprehended, the forces of both nations stood down, and the crisis was averted.
