AVIDAN

The name "Avidan" is taken from an ancient Goa'uld dialect meaning, "the gods are just." The people of the Rand Protectorate on Tegalus had named their stargate The Great Ring of Avidan, but when SG-1 arrived on the planet, a group of religious fundamentalists interpreted the activation of the Great Ring as confirmation of their beliefs that the ancient gods would return to reward the faithful. A growing fundamentalist movement under the leadership of the zealot Soren led to civil war, and when Soren seized control of the capital, he established a provisional government, renaming the Rand Protectorate "Avidan."
